Since the founding of the firm in 2004, Mr. Burkwitz has led the firm’s employment litigation initiatives with particular emphasis on discrimination claims based upon sex, race, religion, national origin and pregnancy under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, Fair Employment and Housing Act (DFEH) and common law claims. Additionally, he assists clients with Labor Commissioner claims and administrative hearings. Mr. Burkwitz also handles personal injury, civil rights claims, and medical malpractice defense.
With an impressive string of success defending individuals, employers, and public entities, Mr. Burkwitz has earned a solid reputation in the legal community for consistently delivering powerful and effective defenses for his clients facing complicated and highly-contested claims related to employment law, civil rights law, and professional negligence claims. Mr. Burkwitz has been the lead counsel in more than 35 jury trials and has tried approximately 100 administrative hearings to conclusion. Mr. Burkwitz has also successfully argued before the California Appellate Court and the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals on multiple occasions.
Mr. Burkwitz graduated in 1995 with a B.A. from the California State University, Northridge. He obtained his Master’s degree from San Diego State University in 1997 and his Juris Doctor degree from Southwestern School of Law in 2001. He began his legal career the same year, litigating medical malpractice and personal injury claims.
In recognition of his impressive achievements and dedication, Mr. Burkwitz made partner in 2009. Mr. Burkwitz was accepted into the prestigious American Board of Trial Advocates in 2017, with Associate status. He is also a member of the American Bar Association, the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and invited as part of the prestigious Litigation Counsel of America.
