Thomas R. Bradford is a skilled trial attorney who advocates for clients from many disciplines and industries throughout California facing tort liability claims with a special emphasis on medical, dental, health facilities, products liability, and complicated government tort claims. His legal experience includes multiple independent counsel investigations.
Mr. Bradford was licensed by the State Bar of California in 1983. He is admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court, the U.S. Court of Appeals, and the U.S. Supreme Court.
As a former foster parent, Mr. Bradford also dedicates a considerable amount of time leading the firm’s pro bono child advocacy program, which focuses upon adoption and foster care. He has served as assigned Minor’s Counsel for both the Los Angeles and Orange County Superior Courts.
As a former healthcare executive, Mr. Bradford has carved out a niche for himself and his practice, which deals with administrative hearings and defending licensed health care providers in disciplinary proceedings brought by medical staffs, peer review bodies, and licensing actions instituted by the various State licensing boards. He is often called upon to serve as a hearing officer or an arbitrator for medical staff proceedings.
Mr. Bradford is a vetted member of the American Board of Trial Advocates with Advocate status. He is a State Bar Board Certified Specialist in both Civil Trial Advocacy and Medical Malpractice.
Mr. Bradford is a Senior Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America—a distinction shared by less than one-half of 1 percent of all U.S. lawyers. He is a member of the Trial Law Institute and Diversity Law Institute. He is Barrister, Order of Centurions and Barrister, Order of Certus.
Mr. Bradford graduated from Villanova University in 1972 with dual bachelor degrees in Biology and Humanities. He earned his Master of Arts Degree in Health Care Administration in 1975 from George Washington University. In 1982, he received his Juris Doctor Degree from Southwestern University School of Law and was admitted to the California State Bar in 1983. In 2004, he co-founded what is now Peterson · Bradford · Burkwitz with attorney George E. Peterson.
